VETERANS CRITICAL ASSISTANCE GRANT

During these trying times, veterans in crisis need our help to make ends meet. Veterans should not have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table. After all they have sacrificed for us, now it’s our turn. That’s why the Purple Heart Foundation will be providing Veterans Critical Assistance Grants to struggling veterans.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Many jobs in today’s economy require an undergraduate degree, but higher education doesn’t come cheap… for civilians or veterans. Although the G.I. Bill helps those out of the military looking to further their education, it doesn’t cover everything… that’s where we come in.

The Purple Heart Foundation academic scholarship is available to Purple Heart recipients and their direct descendants (including spouses, children and grandchildren). These Purple Heart scholarships can be used to cover the cost of additional fees associated with higher education. Our goal is to provide a brighter future for combat-wounded veterans and their families.

SERVICE DOGS

Our goal is to assist and empower veterans to return to life with dignity and independence. Our service dog fund is focused on mitigating the symptoms associated with combat injuries, Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS), and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

We provide service dogs to combat-wounded veterans at no cost to them in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence. We focus on helping the veteran and their service dog build a bond to facilitate healing and recovery. As the healing takes place, reintegrating into society begins. Veterans can return to their communities with their new best friend and a new outlook on life.

PTSD RESOURCES

The scars of battle go far deeper than the eye can see.

Many veterans return home just to face a multitude of physical and mental challenges. Veterans’ families are often unprepared to deal with a family member who may be experiencing the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).

The Purple Heart Foundation offers opportunities for combat-wounded veterans to cope with their stress and trauma through art, music, sports and other forms of physical therapy. One example of the Purple Heart Foundation’s efforts is the Purple Heart Open, an annual charity golf tournament used to raise funds for PTSD Resources while also offering free attendance to combat-wounded veterans from the Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA) to play golf and socialize as a form of post-traumatic stress therapy.

The Purple Heart Foundation has also offered grants to PTSD research facilities (such as the National Intrepid Center in Texas) as well as provided books and resources about coping with PTSD, free of charge, to those in need.
