The Purple Heart Foundation is proud to partner with Cell Phones For Soldiers, a national nonprofit organization committed to keeping military members and veterans connected with their loved ones. Since 2004, their mission has been dedicated to providing cost-free communication services and emergency funding to active-duty military members and veterans.
How It Works
For many of our heroes, transition to civilian life can be challenging. That’s why Cell Phones for Soldiers Mobile provides free phones for veterans and a year of paid service to help them stay connected with loved ones, seek employment, and access vital resources.
To be eligible for the Cell Phones for Soldiers Mobile program, applicants must:
- Be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces (proof of service required).
- Demonstrate financial need (low-income or at-risk veterans are prioritized).
- Need a phone for essential communication (employment, healthcare, family).
Cell Phones for Soldiers Evergreen Program
The Purple Heart Foundation & Cell Phone for Soldiers are partnering to offer affiliated U.S. Military Veterans a tremendous opportunity to reduce their monthly mobile service costs through the new Evergreen Program.
The Evergreen Program provides Veterans affiliated with Purple Heart or Cell Phones For Soldiers with unlimited talk, text, and 5G data through our partner carriers, and Veterans may be able to transfer their current phone numbers.
To launch the program, the first 500 qualified Veterans approved will receive an additional free line for 12 months, which includes unlimited talk, text, and 2GB of high-speed data per month (followed by unlimited reduced speed data). A portion of the proceeds from every line goes to Purple Heart and Cell Phones For Soldiers to support homeless and economically challenged U.S. Military Veterans.
How to Apply
Any Veteran interested in the Evergreen Program can click the button below to apply. Enter PURPLE HEART when completing the form under Sponsor Charity Support Field. Once your application is received and validated as a U.S. Military Veteran (within 48–72 hours), you will receive Evergreen approval and the next steps to complete the transfer of your existing number or activate a new line.
Evergreen Program Details
- Service charges, plus taxes and fees, include unlimited calls, texts, and unlimited 5G data.
- Each Veteran is authorized to activate or transfer up to two lines at the advertised price per line.
- U.S. Military Veterans must provide a DD214 during the process to confirm Veteran status.
- Current phone numbers and devices being transferred must be unlocked from current accounts.
The Cell Phones for Soldiers Process
1. Phones are Donated
Generous individuals and organizations donate their unused phones to support veterans in need. Each phone donation plays a crucial role in helping veterans stay connected and access essential services.
2. Phones are Received by Cell Phones for Soldiers
The donated phones are sent to Cell Phones for Soldiers warehouse, where they undergo a thorough cleaning and inspection process. Technicians ensure that each phone is in good working condition, ready to be paired with new service and distributed to veterans.
3. Wireless Service Partnership Established
Cell Phones for Soldiers partners with a trusted Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) to provide reliable mobile service on the refurbished phones. This step ensures that each phone comes with a functional and active service plan, allowing veterans to make calls, send messages, and access the internet.
4. Veterans Apply for Phones
Veterans interested in receiving a phone and free service must submit an application.
5. Phone Sent to Veteran
Once the application is approved, the refurbished phone with active service is carefully packaged and sent out to the veteran. This final step ensures that veterans receive their phones promptly, allowing them to stay connected and access vital resources.
